EdTech in Action: Utilising Kindle Cloud Reader for Guided and Shared Reading
Revolutionising the way we teach reading with digital tools
As a passionate Ed-tech enthusiast, I am constantly seeking innovative ways to elevate my students' learning experience through the integration of cutting-edge technology that is both efficient and effective. That's why I was ecstatic when I discovered the Kindle Cloud Reader. Not only has it made my shared and guided reading sessions more interactive and engaging, but it has also made my job as a teacher significantly easier.
Gone are the days of trying to fit a small book on the board for shared and guided reading sessions. The Kindle Cloud Reader has revolutionised the way I conduct these lessons in my classroom.
The Convenience of Projecting the Text
By projecting the text onto the big screen, all of my students are able to actively engage with the material, following along with their own digital copies of the book. And with the added convenience of Airplay, I am able to walk around the classroom and model reading strategies while still having the text projected in front of me.
The Efficiency of a Digital Library
Furthermore, the Kindle Cloud Reader makes it easier for me to plan and execute guided reading activities, as I am able to easily select and project specific passages for students to focus on, leading to more effective retrieval and inference work.
In addition to all these benefits, I also believe that all schools should have a Kindle account which teachers can have access to and build a digital library. This eliminates the need for physical books and the time consuming task of scanning pages to display them on a powerpoint. Trust me, as a teacher, I know that the last thing we want to do is spend our precious planning time scanning pages to put them on a powerpoint.
The Flexibility of Any Device
One of the best things about the Kindle Cloud Reader is that it can be used with any device that has a internet connection. This means that students can access the book on their own devices and follow along during the lesson. This is great for modelling reading and doing echo reading strategies.
The Benefit of Snipping a Passage
One of the best features of the Kindle Cloud Reader is that it allows the teacher to plan effective guided reading activities as it is easy to snip a passage for children to focus on and either do retrieval or inference work around.
The Features that Make Kindle Great for Children's Learning Experience
The Kindle Cloud Reader has several features that make it great for children's learning experience.
Highlighting and note-taking: Students/ teachers can easily highlight text and take notes, making it a great tool for close reading and annotation.
Dictionary and Wikipedia integration: Students can quickly look up the definition of a word or background information on a topic without leaving the text.
Text-to-Speech: This feature allows for students to listen to the text, which is great for struggling readers or for when students need to focus on a different aspect of the text.
Customisable font and background: This allows for easy reading for students with visual impairments or for when students need to change the font to suit their reading preference.
In conclusion, the Kindle Cloud Reader has been a game changer for my guided and shared reading sessions. It not only saves me time but also enhances my student's learning experience with its various features.
It has significantly improved my students' learning experience by providing a more interactive and engaging way to conduct shared and guided reading sessions. I highly recommend it to any teacher looking to upgrade their reading instruction.
Furthermore, I genuinely believe, all schools should have a Kindle account which teachers can have access to, providing a digital library for the students and for the teachers to access. So next time you're thinking of scanning pages to display on the board, consider using the Kindle Cloud Reader instead.
